Vaping shouldn’t be banned.

The number of vaping-related crackdowns this year have been astronomical, and honestly disheartening. But we know that vaping shouldn’t be banned, for the benefit of the nation and public health.

In 2019, the Office of National Statistics estimated a total of 14.1 million people in the UK who smoked, accounting around 6.9 million people.

The British Government has set a target for the nation to be smoke-free by 2030, but due to cuts to stop smoking services, there are now fewer methods available to those who are struggling.

Vape shops can help smokers cut down on cigarettes, and even quit altogether, reducing the already heavy burden on the National Health Service. Vaping is also far more flexible than all other tobacco alternatives, like patches and gum.

The entire vaping experience can be completely customised to fit an individual’s tastes, style, requirements, and preferences, making them up to 5 times more likely to stay smoke-free for good.

Now, wherever there are bans, black markets will soon follow.

A very famous reminder is when America banned alcohol in 1920, an estimated 10,000 people died from drinking tainted alcohol, which was sold in illegal speakeasies.

There is already evidence showing that the flavour bans in Massachusetts are leading an increase in illegal activity.

It would also be a massive blow to the economy. The vaping industry is set to be worth $3.3 billion by 2027, and employs thousands across the UK alone.

In an era of lockdowns, pandemic panics and employment problems, the vaping industry has remained firm and steady, even as the employment rate hit a four-year high last Autumn, with further job losses predicted for this year.

To ban vaping with result in a massive loss of tax, jobs, income, and a huge risk of forcing people back to smoking traditional cigarettes.

What do you think? Should vaping be banned or restricted? Or do we have enough limitations and they need to relax the rules? Hash it out in the comments!
